Israel has "eliminated" late Hezbollah leader Nasrallah’s successor, Netanyahu says

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on Tuesday that Israel has "eliminated" Hassan Nasrallah, the current leader of Hezbollah.

In a video statement, Netanyahu stated, "We have eliminated thousands of terrorists, including Nasrallah himself, Nasrallah's successor, and the successor of Nasrallah's successor."

A security source in Lebanon told CNN on Saturday that Hezbollah had lost contact with Hashem Safieddine after an Israeli attack on him on Friday in the southern suburbs of Beirut. It was thought that Safieddine might be the Hezbollah leader's successor.

In his statement on Tuesday, Netanyahu made a direct address to the people of Lebanon, urging them to oppose Hezbollah and "take back your country."

Netanyahu stated, "Christians, Druze, Muslims, Sunnis, Shiites, and all of you are suffering because of Hezbollah's futile war in Israel."

He went on to say, "You have an opportunity to save Lebanon before it sinks into a long war that will bring destruction and suffering similar to what we see in Gaza."

The Lebanese health ministry says that Israel's war on Hezbollah has killed more than 1,400 people in Lebanon. Lebanese authorities have stated that since fighting erupted last month, over 1.2 million people have been forced to flee their homes.
