On Saturday, the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Najib Mikati, addressed the US presidential envoy, Amos Hochstein, before speaking to Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the president of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran.
According to Lebanon's official National News Agency (NNA), Mikati discussed the ongoing efforts to secure a ceasefire in the midst of escalating tensions in the region.
According to NNA, Mikati reiterated to Ghalibaf during their meeting in Beirut that the priority of the Lebanese government is "working towards a ceasefire, halting Israeli aggression, and ensuring the security and safety of Lebanon and its people."
Addressing Hochstein by telephone, Mikati zeroed in on ways of stopping "military showdowns" and push ahead with a far reaching political arrangement in view of the 2006 Joined Countries Security Gathering Goal 1701, which requires a super durable truce and a finish to threats among Hezbollah and Israel.
What else is stated in the resolution? It says that Hezbollah forces must leave Lebanon north of the Litani River and that only Lebanese troops should be in the border region.
