Israeli forces hoist flag on the outskirts of Lebanese border village, video shows

According to a video that is trending on social media and has been geolocated by CNN, Israeli troops have flown the Israeli flag over the ruins of Iran Garden Park, which are located on the southern edge of the Lebanese border village of Maroun Al-Ras.

The Israeli military announced earlier on Tuesday that it had gained control of a Hezbollah combat compound in the Maroun Al-Ras region.

It is not clear whether the Israeli military is still in the region. The Israel Defense Forces have been contacted by CNN for comment.

Near the Lebanese border village of Maroun Al-Ras, where Israeli soldiers have been filmed raising a flag, satellite imagery from October 5 appears to show nearly 30 Israeli military vehicles.

Planet Labs shared satellite imagery that appears to show Israeli military vehicles positioned behind berms that surround a UNIFIL base, although it is unclear when the flag was planted by Israeli forces.

The Israeli flag was hoisted at Iran Garden Park, which is less than half a mile southeast of the base.

António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, stated on Tuesday that "Israeli tanks and other armed elements" had since left the UNIFIL base area.

Guterres stated, "I strongly appeal — strongly appeal — to both parties to fully respect UNIFIL's safety and security."

According to CNN's analysis of the same images, Iran Garden sustained significant damage on October 5.
