Hezbollah drone attack kills four Israeli soldiers and injures 58

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said four soldiers were killed and 58 wounded in a drone attack on a military base in northern Israel.

The IDF added that seven soldiers were seriously wounded in the attack on the base "next to the town of Binyamina," about 33 kilometers south of Haifa. Hezbollah  claimed responsibility for the attack, which  targeted a training camp for the IDF's Golani Brigade in the area between Tel Aviv and Haifa. The militant's press office said the attack was a response to Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon and Beirut on Thursday. The group said it had attacked the camp in northern Israel with a "swarm of drones." The attack was one of the largest against Israeli positions in more than a year. The Israeli rescue service Magen David Adom (MDA) had previously said 61 people were wounded in the attack, including three seriously. Thirty-seven of those were taken  by ambulance or helicopter to eight hospitals in the area. In a statement before the IDF confirmed the deaths, the MDA said that in addition to the three seriously injured, 18 of the victims had moderate injuries, 31 had minor injuries, and nine were in a "state of uncertainty." The reason for the difference in the number of seriously injured between the MDA and the IDF is unclear. Due to Israeli censorship rules, media outlets were initially unable to report exactly where and what was struck until the Israeli military confirmed it was the Binyamina base. Some Israeli media  reported that a low-flying drone launched from Lebanon struck the base. The drone was a relatively simple weapon and did not appear to have set off an early warning system. Throughout the night, television news reports, social media posts, and online reports showed footage of emergency vehicles, including helicopters, transporting the wounded to hospitals in northern Israel. Many of the wounded were evacuated to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center near Hadera, while others were taken to hospitals in Tel Hahomer, Haifa, Afula, and Netanya. Details are still emerging, but many of the wounded were reportedly surprised, having been in a local restaurant at the time. Photos of what appears to be an empty water bottle with a hole in its roof have been circulating on social media.
