An explosion lit up the skies above Beirut on Monday night (local time). The blast was part of a series of nighttime attacks targeting the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital since September 27. CNN cameras captured the explosion, which lit up the sky for less than a second but cast an orange glow from the target area. CNN staff also heard several attacks in Beirut's southern suburbs during the day. About 30 minutes before CNN recorded the explosion, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Arabic-language spokesman Avichai Adlai warned residents that the IDF would attack two neighborhoods in the southern suburbs, Burj al-Barajneh and Hadas, which are close to Hezbollah installations and interests. In a statement later, the IDF said the Israeli Air Force had struck "terror targets belonging to the Hezbollah Intelligence Headquarters" on Monday night. The Israeli military said on Monday morning that it had also struck suspected Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa region, including "weapons depots, terrorist infrastructure facilities and launch pads."
