Al Jazeera and medical workers accuse IDF of firing at journalists in Gaza, killing 1 and injuring others

Al Jazeera and medical responders report that the Israeli military is being accused of firing at a group of journalists in Gaza on Wednesday, killing one and injuring others.

According to Al Jazeera, the Israeli military "targeted a number of journalists" in and around the Jabalya refugee camp in northern Gaza. After Israeli forces "targeted a group of journalists at Abu Sharkh roundabout in the northern Gaza Strip," according to the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), it said it transported one journalist who had been injured and the body of a person who had died to the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza City. CNN, on the other hand, was informed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) that at the time, it was "not aware of IDF troops in the specified area." Fadi Al Wahidi, a photojournalist for Al Jazeera, was shot in the neck, causing a "critical injury," according to a statement from Al Jazeera. Mohammad Qareqe'e, a coworker of Al Wahidi's, claims that his health is now stable. According to Al Aqsa, a Hamas-affiliated television channel, two employees were also shot. Al Aqsa reports that Mohammed Al-Tanani, a photojournalist, was killed and a reporter was injured. Al Wahidi is shown being carried by a group of men, many of whom are wearing press vests, in footage from the scene. On his shirt, blood can be seen. According to Al Jazeera, "This incident marks yet another grave violation against journalists in Gaza, where Israeli forces have been increasingly hostile toward media workers." International laws that protect journalists and humanitarian workers in war zones are flagrantly broken by the deliberate targeting of journalists.

According to the Committee to Protect Journalists and Reporters Without Borders, since the beginning of the war, at least 128 journalists have been killed, nearly all of whom were Gaza-based Palestinian media workers killed by Israeli airstrikes. In a statement released on Wednesday, the Government Media Office in Gaza criticized "the targeting, killing, and assassination of Palestinian journalists" in "the strongest terms."
