No sunshine and “ominous” skies in Tampa as Hurricane Milton approaches

As Hurricane Milton prepares to hit Florida,  Jasmine Shields, 29, is busy packing her belongings into plastic containers to prevent Ziploc bags filled with water to keep  food fresh in case of flooding or power outages from freezing. Looking out the window, Shields told CNN, "The sun's not shining today." "It looks very threatening." Shields lives in Evacuation Zone A, a neighborhood in Tampa near the Hillsborough River. Shields has lived in  Tampa her whole life, but only moved into her current apartment  three weeks ago, and said it's the first place she's ever moved to. Living in a place where the storm worried her, especially after seeing the damage Helen left behind. "I think we're all taking this storm a lot more seriously," she said. Shields lives in a split-family home, and she and her landlord are doing all they can  to minimize damage before Milton arrives. She said they plan to put  a big old mattress as a barrier in front of their sliding glass doors that face the river. On Tuesday, she plans to drive  with her black cat, Spoopy,  to a friend's apartment inland, outside the evacuation zone.
