John Amos’ daughter says she learned of his death through the media

 Actor John Amos died in August,

but his daughter  revealed that she only found out about his death on October 1 when it  was reported in the media. Shannon Amos paid tribute to her late father in a video she shared on Instagram that showed the two dancing to Luther Vandross' song "Dance with My Father." "We are at a loss for words... Our family  received the heartbreaking news that my father, John Allen Amos Jr., passed away on August 21," Shannon Amos wrote in the caption. "We are devastated and have many questions about how this could have happened 45 days ago after first learning about it through the media like  many of you." The actor's death was announced on Tuesday by his son, Kelly Christopher Amos. "It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my father," she said in a statement  to CNN. "He was a man with such a kind heart and a heart of gold... and  was loved all over the world. Many fans consider him their TV dad. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding work as an actor in television and film." John Amos was 84. His children have objected to his care, which became public last year after Shannon Amos raised concerns with law enforcement. She posted on social media about her belief that her father was a "victim of elder abuse and financial exploitation." Elder Amos was hospitalized at the time and released a statement through a media outlet, emphasizing that he was in good spirits.
