Israeli military says 2,000 Hezbollah targets destroyed as close combat is ongoing

According to Israeli military spokesman Maj. Gen. Daniel Hagari,

Israeli forces have so far destroyed more than 2,000 Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, including weapons, military installations and underground infrastructure. Hagari said Hezbollah "invested a lot of effort and resources to place its military assets underground in villages near the border and in civilian buildings. We are now doing everything in our power to destroy them." He said some Hezbollah members were killed in hand-to-hand combat, and claimed that about 440 Hezbollah fighters, including about 30 commanders of various ranks, were killed in ground or air battles. Hagari added that Hezbollah's chain of command "has suffered a serious blow... (and) this is painful for the Iranian leadership." Israel's massive bombing campaign in Lebanon, which sometimes targeted densely populated areas, has killed more than 1,400 people  and displaced more than one million, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health. On  Iranian attacks: Hagari also acknowledged that there were "multiple hits in central Israel and civilian areas" during Tuesday's Iranian ballistic missile attack on  Israel,  as well as airbases in Nevatim and Tel Nov. Hagari said the attack did not hit any aircraft and did not damage air force operations. "It is up to us to decide how, where and when we  respond to this criminal attack," Hagari said, following instructions from the country's political leadership. South Lebanon: The Israel Defense Forces announced on Saturday that its paratroopers "continue to fight while navigating complex, mountainous and dense terrain in southern Lebanon." The Israeli army also released details of tunnels it said it had found in southern Lebanon. The army said it had destroyed "250 meters of underground terrorist infrastructure in southern Lebanon."
